Dear Parent/Carers,

I would like to start this letter by bidding a farewell to our Year 11 students, today being their last official day in school. Our Year 11 students have shown tremendous spirit, resilience and determination throughout their past five years, in particular recent times they have shown much maturity and understanding. I look forward to seeing many of them at the Prom and wish them all the best of luck in the future.

INSET Days – Friday 28 May and Monday 7 June

Friday 28 May will be a Moderation day for our staff, ensuring the centre assessed grades process is as rigorous as possible for our Year 11 and Year 13 students.

With changes to the curriculum model starting next academic year, it is important to allow our staff time to prepare for the changes. Therefore, Monday 7 June will be an INSET day.

This means that for both dates, and work will be set on Microsoft Teams Assignments for students to complete. Students are to return to school on Tuesday 8 June 2021.

Year 10 Registration

From Tuesday 8 June 2021, Year 10 registration will return to the morning, starting at 8.35am. This means all Year 10 students will be expected to arrive to be in their tutor room by 8.35am, with registers closing at 8.40am, thereafter students will be marked in late. Excellent punctuality is key to be prepared for a day of learning. Please ensure your child is well equipped and prepared for the change when on the return.

Face Masks

As we return after half-term, many of our staff will have received their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccination. Given this, and the government decision to not have face mask wearing in class mandatory, students will not be required to wear their facemasks whilst inside the classroom. However, they may continue to do so if they should wish. In communal areas, such as the corridors, students will still be required to wear face masks. Please note we continually monitor this situation and if advised by our local public health team to change school safety protocols in relation to Covid, then we will update you accordingly.

Behaviour Policy Summer 2021

Schools play an essential role in establishing healthy routines and structures together with giving young people a sense of belonging, all fundamental to a young person’s education and wellbeing. As students returned this half term, we are seeing an increased need to re-establish school rules and clear boundaries.

From Tuesday 8 June, we will be following the Behaviour & Relationships Policy Summer 2021. It is crucial that students are ready for learning, please use the time in the half-term to ensure they have the correct equipment. All students are required to have their stationery in a pencil case and they must always have a reading book. You will find the policy attached to this email, please ensure you have read this policy with your child and they understand.

Covid-19 Safety Protocols

Students should continue to conduct and register lateral flow tests on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. As always, if your child’s test has a positive result, please email admin@sns.hackney.sch.uk as soon as possible.

A reminder that test kits are available for households, please follow this link for more information and to order. Should your child require further home test kits, please email admin@sns.hackney.sch.uk.
