Headteacher's Letter to Parents and Carers - 27/02/26
Online safety, World Book Day, Community Evening
Week 22 | Friday 27th February 2026
Theme of the Week – Online Safety
This week’s assemblies focused on Online Safety, with Young Hackney delivering sessions on understanding and managing digital footprints. Students learned about how their online actions leave lasting traces, the importance of protecting personal information, recognising online risks, and responding appropriately to issues such as cyberbullying. The assembly equipped students with the confidence and skills to make safer, more responsible choices online. I ask that you as parents regularly have these conversations and should you have any concerns, please report them to your child’s Head of Year.
On Wednesday, we held our Year 8 Options Evening, there was buzz and excitement, particularly those in the creative subjects, from students as they learnt more about our subject offer. I hope the evening supported you and our young people in gaining a clearer understanding of the choices ahead, confident in their choices for GCSE subjects. You can find a reminder of the information using this link.
I am delighted to share that Artemisia, Year 12 History Student, has secured a place at the nationwide Historical Association Great Debate competition after delivering a superb speech in the semi-finals. We wish Artemisia the very best in the finals next month.
We are also celebrating the talents of our School Chef, Moises, who has reached the regional finals of the School Chef of the Year Competition, taking place this Tuesday. Moises has created two dishes inspired by classic British flavours, a stuffed chicken drumstick with potatoes and courgettes alongside a sweet Yorkshire pudding with cinnamon apples and oat crumble. Please join us in wishing him the best of luck!
World Book Day - Thursday 5th March 2026
To celebrate World Book Day, we are hosting a dress up day for Year 7 students next week. Our chosen theme is Heroes and Villains, so students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. If your child is in Year 7 and wants to participate, there will be a £1 collection at the gate on the day. The money will go towards the World Book Day charity and help to promote reading nationally.
There will also be a second-hand book sale in the Library at lunchtime on the day for students in all year groups. If students wish to buy second-hand books, they need to bring in 10p to participate and their own bag to fill with books (e.g. a plastic bag).
Our talented student Reading Ambassadors have recorded a podcast to let staff, students and the wider community know all about the exciting things going on at school to celebrate World Book Day.
There will be author visits, creative writing workshops, competitions and quizzes to celebrate books and Reading for Pleasure. Our latest podcast, led by our Reading Ambassadors, and future episodes, can be found on the school website’s dedicated Podcast page using this link.
Community Evening – Thursday 21st May
This year, as every year, we will be celebrating our community during Community Evening on Thursday 21st May. We are looking for parents/carers and members of our community who are willing to bring food from different countries, perform music or any kind of traditional dances/shows from our different communities or simply have a stall to be part of this exciting evening. If you would like to get involved in any way, please contact Miss Reyes Barrios at using this link. Looking forward to hearing from you!
