At our school we want all students to achieve an attendance of between 96% and 100%.

Regular attendance is crucial for students' success. When students miss school, they can fall behind in their learning, as they miss out on important lessons and activities. Additionally, consistent attendance helps build and maintain relationships with peers and teachers, which is important for social development and a sense of belonging.

We often find that students who attend regularly are more engaged, perform better academically, and have a more positive experience overall. Of course, there are times when absences are unavoidable due to illness or other personal circumstances, but maintaining a consistent attendance pattern is generally beneficial for students' overall growth and development.

Maintaining a high school attendance rate, such as 96%, is crucial for several reasons:

  1. Academic achievement: Consistent attendance helps students keep up with lessons, understand the material thoroughly, and perform well on assessments. Missing school can lead to gaps in knowledge, which might affect overall academic performance.
  2. Skill development: Regular attendance supports the development of essential skills like time management, discipline, and responsibility. It helps students build a routine and understand the importance of commitment and consistency.
  3. Social skills: Being present in school allows students to interact with their peers, participate in group activities, and develop strong social skills. This interaction is vital for personal growth and emotional well-being.
  4. Behavioural benefits: Students who attend school regularly are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. School provides a structured environment that can keep students engaged and focused on positive activities.
  5. Future opportunities: High attendance rates are often linked to better academic results and higher graduation rates. This can open doors to further education and career opportunities.
  6. Support services: Regular attendance ensures that students can access and benefit from various support services offered by schools, such as counselling, special education resources, and extracurricular programs.
  7. Community building: Schools are not just educational institutions but also community hubs. Regular attendance helps students feel more connected to their school community and fosters a sense of belonging.

Punctuality

Students are expected to arrive at school by 8:25am and to be in their classroom and ready to learn by 8.30am. Students who arrive after 8.30am will be recorded as late on the register and sanctions are in place for this. Students will receive a 30-minute late detention to be completed at lunchtime the same day.

Any student arriving after 8.55am without a legitimate reason will be recorded as unauthorised. If there is a legitimate reason (for example a medical appointment) this must be communicated to Attendance in the usual way.

Supporting attendance

We aim to support students and their families to maintain excellent attendance and improve their attendance over time.

If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance you should contact their Head of Year, or the attendance team and we will be happy to help.

However, persistent low attendance may lead to further intervention including fixed penalty notices.

Breakfast Club 7:40am – 8:20am

Each morning, we hold Breakfast Club, offering nutritious breakfasts to children to fuel their learning. If you would like your child to attend please contact reception.
