We started the morning in our geography classroom. After meeting Mr Harvey, we set off together, chatting on the walk to the Overground. The journey itself already felt like a part of the trip as we saw evidence of fly-tipping from the train, and by the time we got off at Silver Street and caught the Superloop to the EcoPark, everyone was in high spirits.

We were the first school to arrive, which meant we got first pick of the pastries — a definite highlight! As the other schools joined us, the atmosphere became really lively. Lizzie from the NLWA welcomed everyone and helped organise the different groups. While the council leaders headed off to discuss the challenges in their boroughs, we got to work in our teams, exploring ideas and getting really stuck into the challenge.

The morning flew by, and after lunch we were introduced to Mete Coban, Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy, who gave an inspiring speech that made our efforts feel genuinely important. Councillor Clyde then presented the awards, and it felt great to be recognised for the ideas we had come up with. We wrapped up the day with lots of group photos and big smiles all round.

Overall, it was a brilliant experience — fun, interesting, and definitely a day we’ll remember.
