Our SNS library offers a quiet learning atmosphere with a comprehensive array of books for study and enjoyment
Stoke Newington School Library is a welcoming and vibrant learning space where students can read for pleasure, use computers for homework and research and take part in creative activities inspired by our Language of the Month and global celebrations. The library supports the school curriculum while encouraging a lifelong love of reading.
Opening Times
The library is open to all staff and students every day from 8.00am - 4.00pm and during break and lunch

Reading Celebrations and Events
Scholastic Book Fairs, where students can buy copies of the latest publications and a range of stationery take place in the library in the autumn and summer terms staffed by our student librarians.
World Book Day in early March is celebrated during our annual SNS Lit Fest. A vibrant programme of events including inspiring author visits and creative writing and illustration workshops is planned across all year groups.
Each year, the school takes part in the Carnegie Award for Writing Shadowing Scheme. Students read and discuss the short-listed books and produce a creative response to their chosen book. They then take part in a Hackney schools celebration.
Student Leadership Opportunities
All students are welcome to volunteer for the role of Student Librarian. Students will learn many work-related skills such as teamwork, communication, organisation, and being responsible.
In Year 7, students will have the opportunity to apply to become a Reading Ambassador. This is a Hackney wide scheme aimed at encouraging students to promote Reading for Pleasure to their peers and the wider community.
Library Rules and Borrowing Information
All students may borrow up to two books at a time for three weeks. Books can be renewed unless they have been reserved by another student.
Students are sent regular reminders once their book has become overdue in a series of scheduled emails. The first reminder is addressed to their tutor, then to the student’s personal school email address and finally to the student’s parent/carer email address. Please encourage your child to look after their books and return them on time so as other students may enjoy them.
