Stoke Newington School welcomed the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) and Google as they delivered their Be Internet Citizens workshop to our Year 9 students, with Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP Diane Abbott also popping in to take part, last week.

The Be Internet Citizens workshop is designed to teach 13 to 15 year-olds about media literacy, critical thinking and digital citizenship, encouraging young people to be positive voices online while increasing their resilience to hate and extremism.

It was enormously successful with conversations about identity, youth pressures, peer pressures, and social media going on.

Alongside the workshops, SNS headteacher Zehra Jaffer, Diane Abbott and members of ISD met to discuss the growing need to empower young people to be responsible, safe and confident online.

Due to the overwhelming success of their visit, ISD and Google are returning to Stoke Newington to deliver more workshops on 10 July. There are also plans to introduce a workshop to help parents become more confident in knowing how to help their children navigate online communities safely and responsibly.
