Letter sent - 11th February 2021

Dear Parent/Carers,

I hope this letter finds you all well. It has been another busy week and it was lovely seeing many of you at the various forums.

Digital Detox Day - Friday 12 Feb

Tomorrow is Digital Detox Day, the aim of the day is for students to disconnect from their digital devices and reconnect with the world offline, together with the autonomy to engage in activities of their choice. The tasks set are subject specific and divided into key stages. Students are to browse the array of activities and using the link below, check the subject folder for resources. If stuck, students can refer to their timetable to identify what lessons they have for the day for some inspiration. You should have received the link already by text, here is a reminder of the link to our Digital Detox Day activities. We hope our young people enjoy the screen-free day.

A reminder that the on-site school hub provision is closed for tomorrow, Friday 12 February so that teachers can focus on planning, moderation and standardisation in readiness for the new half term. The provision will resume on Monday 22 February.

Years 11 and 13 Joint Parent Forum – Ofqual Consultation Outcome

The outcome of the Ofqual consultation is due to be released the week beginning 22 February. We invite parents and carers of Years 11 and 13 students to attend the above forum on Tuesday 2 March from 2.00pm – 3.00pm.

Year 10 Parents’ Evening – Wednesday 31 March 4.00pm-6:30pm

We have brought forward the date of the Year 10 Parents’ Evening to Wednesday 31st March. Given the present situation with school closure for most students, we felt it important for students and their parent/carers to meet with subject teachers before the Summer term begins.

One Year On – Thursday 25 March 6.00pm-7:15pm

As we approach the anniversary of the first lockdown, it is important our wonderful community comes together to commemorate those who we have lost, show appreciation to all those who have given so much to help others, recognise our differing experiences, reflect on what we have learnt and share our hopes for the future.

Together with our students and community leaders, we will be hosting an event on the Thursday 25th March from 6.00pm-7.15pm called One Year On. The evening will consist of poetry, musical performances, spoken word, a virtual gallery and a silent auction to raise money for St Joseph’s Hospice, St Ann’s Nursing Home and Homerton University Hospital Foundation Trust. More information to follow shortly. We hope as many of you as possible can attend.

Education Psychologists – Year Group Forums

Following parent feedback, we are pleased to announce that our link Education Psychologists from Hackney Education will be attending Parent Forums to present ‘Supporting Teenage Motivation’ which was delivered to the Year 11 forum this week.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a safe and restful half term. It is important that our young people take this opportunity to rest and recharge. They have shown incredible resilience, strength and understanding in this unprecedented period in our lives. I thank you for all your support, encouragement and feedback helping us help shape our provision. Sincere thanks to all the staff, teachers, and support staff, who have collectively worked incredibly hard to ensure learning continues for our students.

Wishing you all the very best,

Zehra Jaffer

Headteacher
