Diversity and Equality
Celebrating diversity is at the core of our community values
At Stoke Newington School, we are a diverse and inclusive community, and we are very proud of this. Celebrating diversity, giving visibility to all groups and backgrounds, and understanding that our differences are what make us strong is at the core of our community values.
Our approach to personal development and wellbeing is deeply rooted in our commitment to inclusion, equity, and respect. We believe that students thrive when they feel seen, heard, and valued. That’s why we actively encourage students, staff, and members of the wider community to engage in the many activities we organise around diversity and identity.
We create spaces for dialogue, reflection, and celebration—both within our curriculum and through a rich programme of extracurricular events. These opportunities help students develop a strong sense of self, empathy for others, and the confidence to contribute positively to society.
Throughout the year, our Diversity Reps lead whole-school assemblies that explore key themes such as inclusion, tolerance, and social justice. These assemblies, alongside our calendar of events, support students in understanding the world around them and their place within it. Annual activities include:
- Black History Month UK
- LGBTQ+ History Month
- International Women’s Day
- Celebrating Communities Week
- TKTC Achievement Week
- Muslim Heritage Month
- Neurodiversity Celebration Week
- Key cultural dates such as Diwali and Day of the Dead
These events are not just celebrations—they are educational experiences that promote cultural awareness, challenge stereotypes, and foster mutual respect. They are central to our work in developing students’ character, preparing them for life in modern Britain, and ensuring they leave school with the values and skills needed to succeed in a diverse world.
We are proud to uphold the principles of the Equality Act 2010, and we take proactive steps to ensure our school is a safe, inclusive space where every individual can thrive. A key example of this is our Community Evening, an open event that brings together families, staff, and students to celebrate our rich cultural heritage and build connections across our community.
