Celebrating Success: Our School Rewards

At Stoke Newington School, we believe in the importance of positive reinforcement by recognising and celebrating students’ achievements, effort, and positive behaviour. Our rewards system is designed to motivate students and help them feel proud of their progress. We aim to use rewards consistently and meaningfully, so that every recognition truly reflects a student’s success.

Everyday Recognition

We encourage staff to regularly celebrate students in informal ways, including:

  • Verbal praise and positive comments during lessons.
  • Displaying students’ work in classrooms and around the school.
  • Written feedback that highlights effort and achievement.
  • Positive messages sent home via students’ contact books.
  • Mentions in the Headteacher’s fortnightly letter to parents and carers.
  • Phone calls home to share good news.

Achievement Points

Students can earn achievement points for a wide range of positive behaviours that link to our school values of Compassion, Ambition, Resilience and Excellence (CARE). As students collect points, they receive reward badges and are celebrated during form time and assemblies. These points also contribute to opportunities for reward trips and other positive experiences. Students can also use their achievement points to purchase items from the SNS Reward Store which can be accessed via their Class Charts account.

The reward items are chosen by students through student voice discussions and include:

  • Stationary
  • Drinks/snacks
  • School canteen vouchers
  • Break and lunch queue jump passes
  • Lunchtime games room passes
  • Sports equipment

Well done postcards sent home

We use a variety of ‘Good Work’ postcards to recognise outstanding effort and achievement both in and out of lessons. These are also awarded for excellent progress in termly checks.

Each half term, every member of staff sends at least one postcard home for a student in each class. Our support staff also take part, aiming to send at least two postcards during this time.

Attendance and Punctuality

We value good attendance and punctuality and celebrate it regularly:

  • Certificates for 100% attendance and punctuality are awarded each term in assembly.
  • Annual prizes are given to students with perfect attendance throughout the year.
  • Students can also earn achievement points for improving their attendance and punctuality.

Headteacher CARE Awards

These special certificates are awarded to students who:

  • Produce exceptional work
  • Show outstanding effort or improvement
  • Make a significant contribution to the school or wider community

Additionally, students with 100% punctuality are entered into a termly prize draw.
