On the slideshow provided there is a variety of listening resources to engage with. Ideally, take yourselves out of the house and away from your laptops/tablets and use phones to access the podcasts and radio shows we have suggested.
Option 1 - The Story of Music in 50 Pieces: This is an awesome overview, telling a narrative of the history of Western Classical Music through 50 pieces. Each episode is no more than 5 minutes. We have suggested our favourite 8 episodes but all 50 are available at the link on the slideshow. Listen to all 50 if you want a holistic overview of the development of music across the last 450 years.
Option 2 - Song Exploder: a podcast where musicians take apart their songs, and piece by piece, tell the story of how they were made. Each episode is produced and edited by host and creator Hrishikesh Hirway in Los Angeles. Using the isolated, individual tracks from a recording, Hrishikesh asks artists to delve into the specific decisions that went into creating their work. Hrishikesh edits the interviews, removing his side of the conversation and condensing the story to be tightly focused on how the artists brought their songs to life. Guests include Fleetwood Mac, Billie Eilish, U2, Metallica, Solange, Lorde, Yo-Yo Ma, The Roots, Bon Iver, and more.
Option 3 - We have suggested a couple of our favourite radio shows to check out. All episodes are available on the BBC Sounds app/website.
Option 4 - Get practicing! If you have the resources available use your time to practice your instrument.
